GE Creates Sunrotor System to Store Solar Energy and Generate Clean Energy

Although solar energy is inexhaustible, solar energy is limited by the weather and cannot meet the needs of various periods. Therefore, it is imperative to explore a method for storing solar energy. According to foreign media reports, the United States General Electric Company (GE) said in a statement on the 8th that Stephen Sanborn, a senior engineer of the company`s global research center, has successfully developed a sunrotor system that can generate a large amount of clean energy after using carbon dioxide. It also provides solutions for storing solar energy.

The Sunrotor system functions as a CO2 turbine. By using supercritical carbon dioxide, it can store solar energy more efficiently and obtain clean energy, while also reducing the use of fossil fuels. In this case, solar thermal energy is stored in the molten salt, and extra power is used to pressurize the carbon dioxide gas to make it dry ice.

General Electric researchers hope to reduce the cost of solar energy per megawatt-hour to $100.
